Hood River has also become an
internationally recognized recreational destination, which increasingly attracts
more sports enthusiasts and tourists to the City each year.
The permanent resident population has grown to at around 20,000 end 2006.
In the summer the number can increase substantially or may double.
It is
considered by many as one of the most beautiful cities in Oregon, boasting an
exceptional "quality of life" for both citizens and visitors. Hood River
is well known for its summer recreational activities and opportunities, drawing
thousands of visitors each year to the area. In addition, the City is home base
for a winter wonderland with easy access to Mt. Hood recreational areas. Enjoy
one of the many attractions and shop "till you drop" at our stores in downtown
and in the Heights.
Because of the geographical location on the Columbia River in the middle of the
beautiful Columbia River Gorge, Hood River is one of the best recreational
centers in the Pacific Northwest. The Community takes pride in their modern
services, the first class recreation facilities, the all-embracing cultural
opportunities for all ages.
